allu arjun, stampede controversy

Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has responded to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s assertion that he attended the premiere of ‘Pushpa 2’ at Sandhya Theatre on December 4, despite the police denying permission, resulting in a tragic stampede that led to a woman’s death and leaving her eight-year-old son seriously injured.

Allu Arjun on character assassination after stampede case

In a statement to reporters on Saturday, Allu Arjun expressed his distress over the “humiliating” allegations surrounding the stampede case. He stated that there is a “lot of misinformation” regarding the circumstances of the stampede. “I am not blaming anyone, nor any department or political figure… This is a form of character assassination, and I urge people not to judge me. I am truly sorry for what happened,” he said, emphasizing the toll it takes on him as he has dedicated two decades to building his career and reputation.

The Chief Minister’s comments were made during a state assembly session. He claimed that Arjun remained in the cinema hall even after the woman’s tragic death and that the police had to remove him from the venue. In response, Allu Arjun explained, “I sought permission from the theatre management, and the police cleared the way for me to enter. I am a law-abiding citizen; if I had been informed that permission was not granted, I would have left.”

According to the Chief Minister, Arjun had created a stir by waving to fans from the sunroof of his car before and after entering the theatre. This led to a chaotic scene as thousands of fans attempted to catch a glimpse of him. The actor countered this by stating, “It wasn’t a roadshow or a procession; I simply waved and went inside. No police officer asked me to leave; instead, it was my manager who alerted me about the overwhelming crowd.”

Allu Arjun on arrest

Additionally, Telangana MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi referenced an unnamed actor who reportedly remarked that the incident would only bolster the film’s success. Allu Arjun faced a brief arrest related to the incident but was released on bail within 24 hours. He stated, “I also have a child of the same age. This is painful for me as well. There’s no one to blame for what happened.”

In defending his government, Chief Minister Reddy stated that there would be no special privileges for any individual. Also, he emphasised the importance of protecting public safety. “I urge influential figures in the film industry to act responsibly. We will not overlook those responsible for endangering the public. The safety of our citizens is my government’s foremost priority,” he asserted. Further announcing the cancellation of special shows and incentives for the film community in light of the tragedy.
